FLORENCE, Ala. - The Flor-Ala newspaper staff and the Student Government Association at the University of North Alabama will team up for the first time to hold an SGA presidential debate March 8 at 7 p.m. in Stevens Hall auditorium. The debate will feature presidential candidates William Nash and Will Riley. Nash and Riley will have the opportunity to discuss their platforms and visions for the upcoming year if elected. A panel of four moderators will ask a total of six single-topic questions to the candidates. Audience members will also have the chance to submit questions to the moderators toward the end of the event. Miss UNA 2012 Anne-Marie Hall will act as the emcee for the evening and will introduce the candidates. She will flip a coin after the candidates are introduced and the winner will get to choose either the first opening or the last closing statement, and will automatically get the first question from the panel. The other candidate will get the statement the winner does not pick and the first question from the audience. Each presidential candidate will also have an opening address and closing statement before the event is finished. There will also be a 15-20 minute session where other students running for SGA executive positions will introduce themselves and discuss their plans for the 2012-2013 year if elected by the student body during elections March 12 to 14. Other SGA candidates include Jordan Brasher, Jori Chatman, Laura Giles, Robby Thompson and Mary Frances Wilson. The event is free and open to the public. UNA students, faculty, staff and community members who attend will have the chance to win free prizes and merchandise from The Flor-Ala and Foursquare. The Flor-Ala staff will be live tweeting the debate on their account @FlorAlaLive and using the hashtag #battleoftheWills. Attendees who check in on Foursquare will also have the chance at the Swarm Badge.
